The City of Kirkwood Ice Rink is entering a new chapter following a comprehensive renovation designed to enhance the facility’s performance, efficiency, and long-term service to the community.

Originally constructed as an outdoor ice rink, the facility later evolved with the addition of a protective shell structure that expanded seasonal usability. Today, Chiodini Architects is helping transform the rink once again through a major modernization effort that fully upgrades the facility for future generations of athletes, families, and community citizens.

Working in collaboration with B32 Engineering Group, the project includes the replacement of the original R-22 refrigeration system with a state-of-the-art ammonia-based ice plant, new concrete floor and subfloor heating systems, upgraded dehumidification system, new dasher boards and glass, locker room improvements, and enhancements to the North and East facades and structural systems.

The renovation is designed to improve operational efficiency, extend the service life of the facility, and provide a higher-quality ice experience for hockey, figure skating, public skating, and community events.

As one of Kirkwood’s most cherished recreational amenities, the rink has served generations of residents. This investment preserves that legacy while ensuring the facility remains a vibrant destination for recreation and community engagement for years to come.
