City of Kirkwood Ice Rink Renovation
Chiodini Architects completed the comprehensive renovation of the Kirkwood Ice Rink, modernizing the community facility while extending its operational life for decades to come. Working in collaboration with B32 Engineering Group, the project team replaced the aging R-22 refrigeration system with a modern ammonia-based ice plant and completed a new refrigerated slab, subfloor heating system, upgraded dehumidification equipment, locker room improvements, new dasher boards and rink accessories, structural steel remediation, and building envelope enhancements. B32 Engineering Group provided specialized ice rink engineering services, including refrigeration system design and technical coordination for the facility’s ice-making infrastructure.
The $4 million renovation improved performance, reliability, and energy efficiency while enhancing the experience for athletes, skaters, families, and visitors. The completed project ensures the facility can continue serving the Kirkwood community as a premier destination for youth hockey, figure skating, public skating, and recreational programming for years to come.
